Radiography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology
(ARRT) or registry eligible Certifications: Healthcare Provider
certification required (BCLS) Must-Have: Level I or II Trauma
experience, in OR Description: Under the direction of a
Radiologist, performs Radiologic procedures for the evaluation of
pathological entities as ordered by a physician. Performs related
functions according to department protocols. Utilizes independent
judgment in determining appropriate radiographic techniques,
positioning, and safety practices. Explains examination procedure
to patients and prepares patients for the examination. Reviews
clinical data on requisition and performs appropriate examination.
Obtains additional information about the patient medical history,
as necessary. Prepares procedure room and regularly replenishes
stock such as linen and related supplies. Analyzes anatomical
structure of patient, sets up equipment, and performs the
Radiologic procedure. Manually controls the equipment to obtain the
proper diagnostic information from the area of the body being
studied. Utilizes patient immobilization as needed. May select and
administer intravenous contrast media. Monitors patient for
possible reactions as appropriate to the study and provides
immediate care to patient if a reaction should occur. Performs all
imaging procedures by demonstrating the principles of radiation
protection, which may involve shielding of patients and selecting
appropriate equipment settings to reduce dose. May prepare and set
up sterile equipment, monitors, and supplies required for the
procedure to be performed. Follows department infection control
practices and techniques. Ensures adequate supplies are on hand and
properly stored. Follows department standards for performing
patient care functions as required for optimal patient safety,
privacy, confidentiality, comfort, and legal/ethical rights.
Completes all necessary worksheets, logs, patient records, and
documentation. When needed, assumes responsibility for teaching and
educating new hires and students while maintaining one's own
responsibilities and duties. Resolves any and all image exceptions
and ensures high-quality image delivery into PACS. Completes all
study indexing in the Radiology Information System. Reviews and
confirms clinical protocols with Radiologist before performing
study as necessary. Demonstrates team member standards of
excellence including open communication, responding in a timely
manner, displaying a positive attitude, fostering innovation, and
respecting diversity. Performs all documentation in the medical
record as necessary, as well as within the radiology information
system to support all clinical and billing functions. Will be
assigned to an area (ER or OR) and will perform portable imaging on
patients of various age groups. Shifts are from 1:00 PM to 11:30
PM, including every other weekend. Potential flexibility with hours
is available. On-call responsibilities are not required. Block
scheduling is not available. Physical demands of the role include
working in a hospital with both fixed and mobile units. May be
potentially exposed to radiation if proper precautions are not
utilized. May be exposed to high-voltage equipment and potentially
contagious patients. Occasionally may lift and/or move equipment
and/or patients exceeding 10 lbs. Education/Experience required
includes a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must maintain
required hours of continued education. Must meet or exceed core
customer service responsibilities and standards outlined in the
customer service policy. Must demonstrate teamwork, initiative,
willingness to learn, and respect for diversity without judgment.
