Job Title: Radiographer Profession: Radiologic Technologist Specialty: Diagnostic Radiology Duration: 12 weeks Shift: 0700-1530 Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: 1-2 years License: Registered in Radiography Certifications: ARRT (R), BLS required Must-Have: Experience with trauma, fluoroscopy/OR procedures Description: Under the direction of a Radiologist, performs Radiologic procedures for the evaluation of pathological entities as ordered by a physician. Performs related functions according to department protocols. Utilizes independent judgment in determining appropriate radiographic techniques, positioning, and safety practices. Explains examination procedures to patients and prepares them for the examination. Reviews clinical data on requisition and performs appropriate examinations. Obtains additional information about the patient's medical history, as necessary. Prepares the procedure room and regularly replenishes stock such as linen and related supplies. Analyzes anatomical structures of patients, sets up equipment, and performs the Radiologic procedure. Manually controls the equipment to obtain the proper diagnostic information from the area of the body being studied. Utilizes patient immobilization as needed. May select and administer intravenous contrast media. Monitors patients for possible reactions as appropriate to the study. Provides immediate care to patients if a reaction occurs. Performs all imaging procedures by demonstrating the principles of radiation protection. May involve shielding of patients, selection of appropriate equipment settings to reduce dose, using other ALARA techniques, etc. May prepare and set up sterile equipment, monitors, and supplies required for the procedure. Follows infection control practices and techniques. Ensures adequate supplies are on hand and properly stored. Follows standards for performing patient care functions as required for optimal safety, privacy, confidentiality, comfort, and legal/ethical rights. Completes all necessary worksheets, logs, patient records, and documentation. When needed, assumes the responsibility of teaching and educating new hires and students while maintaining personal responsibilities and duties. Resolves any image exceptions and ensures high-quality image delivery into PACS. Completes all study indexing in the Radiology Information System. Reviews and confirms clinical protocols with the Radiologist before performing a study. Demonstrates consistent standards of excellence including open communication, responding in a timely manner, displaying a positive attitude, and respecting diversity. Performs all documentation necessary in the medical record as well as within the radiology information system to support all clinical functions.
